It started one day in a store
Where they sold coats and boots and much more.
But my life felt so black
Hanging there on the rack--
When along came a boy through the door.

"Awesome, awesome," he said to his mother.
"That coat can't compare to another.
If you'll buy it for me,
I'll be good as can be,
And I'll pass it on down to my brother."

REVIEWS

The story is playfully told from the coat's point of view and there is no strong arm moralizing about donating goods to the Salvation Army. The Coat is meant to be fun... A well thought out story about the importance of sharing and the usefulness of secondhand clothing...Thomas' illustrations are exceptionally well suited to Korda's rollicking verse. The pictures are colorful, flashy watercolors that add enormously to the text.

Maine In Print

The twin messages of sharing and recycling come through clearly followed by the unspoken message that there is no shame in wearing hand me down or clean used clothing. This is another educational and socially conscious book produced by Biddle Publishing Company. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.
